BLACKWATER Sports ended the year with a bang as it thrashed Cafe France, 81-60, to claim a share of second spot in the 2012 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Thursday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Blackwater put up a 15-point lead, 46-21, at the end of the first half and widened the gap, 69-40, after a Paulo Pe basket to start the final period.
The Bakers went on a 17-0 run capped by a Roger Pogoy basket to slice down the deficit, 57-69, with 3:05 left on the clock but Blackwater answered with a Kevin Ferrer triple en route to their fifth win in seven outings.
"We just want to end the year with a win and hope to do well in our last three assignments. Magandang pumunta ng Christmas party na galing sa panalo," said Blackwater coach Leo Isaac as he and his boys headed to team owner Dioseldo Sy's house for their Christmas Party.
Jeric Fortuna poured in 11 points in the first period but was silent the rest of the way to finish with 13 markers, while Ferrer added 11 and Gio Ciriacruz chipped in 10 for Blackwater, which bounced back after bowing to league-leading NLEX (8-1) 68-70 on December 13.
"Dapat nanalo kami against NLEX but even if we lost, it showed that we can play against the best," said Isaac.
Pogoy had 11 markers for Cafe France, which suffered its third loss in seven games.
