With the right combination of looks, attitude and basketball knowledge, a former Ateneo Blue Eagles courtside reporter graced the second day of the sports journalism series organized by the UST Journalism Society.
Patty Laurel, a lifestyle blogger, events host, model and a full-time kindergarten teacher, shared her experiences at the sidelines of the UAAP games at "Covering Sports for Broadcast" in Room 117 of St. Raymund de Penafort Building last September 18.
The AB Communication Arts graduate gave pointers on what happens behind the scenes of a courtside report, and also shared tips on making one's sideline report better.
Laurel also had activities to help students on their stance when in front of the camera, as well as modulating the volume and pitch of their voices.
All in all, the seniors who attended the activity had a blast with the refreshing first-hand encounter with the multi-faceted lady.
"She taught us a lot about broadcast reporting, and we don't often have the opportunity to learn such things inside the campus," said Sharmane Quinto of 4JRN1.
Christian Carl Nariz of 4JRN2 added, "It was a wonderful learning experience coming from someone who actually worked in the court."
Laurel was the Ateneo courtside reporter from 2001 up to 2002, when the LA Tenorio-led Blue Eagles won the UAAP basketball title against the La Salle Green Archers. J
