Editor's Note: In preparation for tonight's Mr. and Ms. Journalism 2012 pageant at the Albertus Magnus Auditorium, The Journalese gives you the first look on the aspirants who could be the next kings and queens of the press this year.
Josh Manlulu, 1JRN1
Kind and lovable, it is no wonder how Manlulu gets to be close with a lot of people. Funny and friendly at the same time, he easily gathers friends and gets along with people a lot. However, perhaps the most amazing quality people have said to have found at Josh is his loyalty; he will never leave his friends behind, and he will always do his best to help his friends along the way. When he was a kid, Josh had always liked to have a job that could help his parents and be a television reporter at the same time. Little did he know that this dream of his could actually turn to be a reality. Josh is active in the field of sports, always having time to play games and make sure his body is fit. He likes playing table tennis, basketball and volleyball. Not only that, Josh is also a competitive gamer, enhancing his hand-to-eye coordination with the help of computer gaming. |
A proud member of Pax Romana and still as friend as ever, Josh has garnered quite a lot of friends, and he has been getting more friends since.
Josh aims to be a reporter one day, and his big dream is to become an anchor in the league of Mike Enriquez and the top anchors of the country.
In the end, the freshman ultimately believes that, "nothing is impossible if you try hard enough."

Nikki Lehnert, 1JRN1
Cheerful, confident and always smiling. Lehnert can make your days a little less normal and a lot more extraordinary. Adventurous in nature, she can make simple strolls around the campus extremely fun. Walking with the grace of a ballerina, a lot would notice her humble and kind nature. Nikki easily makes new friends with her all-out attitude. She could definitely make your stay in the University a lot more enjoyable. When she was little, she always wanted to go to Rome and get lost in its wonderfulness. She also wanted to be a singer, somewhere in the spotlight. Aside from that, she really wanted to become a newscaster. Nikki likes singing, and surprisingly, she can also beatbox. |
A passionate sports player, she likes soccer, basketball, volleyball and usually exercises her mind with dama. She has also cracked a spot at the AB Women's Football team, aside being a freelance model.
She aims to graduate in the University and gather a lot more friends along this journey to be a broadcaster.
She believes that everything happens for a reason, with no coincidences at all. We should talk the talk, and walk the walk. Nikki firmly believes that we should stand up for what we believe in, and ignore those who try to drag us down.

Arthur Lagula, 1JRN2
An embodiment of a true Filipino, Lagula is generous, laid-back and cooperative. While known for his patience and independence, he is also a thrill-seeker capable to take on any of life's challenges with optimism. Polite, understanding and trustworthy, Arthur proudly carries his Thomasian Pride with the spirit of an ideal student, of never giving up. As a child, he always wanted to be a rockstar, aside from taking quite a fascination with the stars, wanting to explore the skies and traverse the space as an astronaut. As a youngster, he also wanted to be a soldier and the President of the Country. Arthur appreciates music a lot, and is a spirited player of the guitar. He likes surfing the Internet without failing to keep in touch by hanging out with his friends and by playing basketball. |
Now a college student, Arthur is currently focusing on his studies, treasuring his friends — both old and new – and loving the University.
Arthur aims to finish college without failing a class, as well as enjoy life as a University student. After he graduates, he plans on taking a job as a journalist, as what journalism majors are supposed to do.
Believing in “come what may,” Arthur wholeheartedly believes that everything has a reason, and no one should be afraid of the challenges they're facing.

Pia Felise Quinto, 1JRN2
She is the “odd-sort and one-of-the-guys” contestant. Ironically, though, she has that simple yet elegant look in her face, she would humbly comment that, “Frankly, I don’t think I’ll come near into winning this pageant.” Though she raises doubts on bringing the bacon home, her block mates are still one and united in supporting her. And striking a big difference on the line of profession she is currently taking as a journalism student, she admits that she plans to take other course, may it be aeronautical engineering or air transport. For the other contestants, she plainly said that, "I do hope that we all end this, and enjoy the night." |
Jerome Javier, 1JRN3
From the Claret School of Quezon City, Javier has still retained all the core values his alma mater has taught him. By the acronym of C.H.E.E.R.S, Jerome has always applied to his life the lessons his school has taught him. He is compassionate and humble to his family, friends and everyone around him. He doesn’t fail to empower people with renewed morale and spirits. Jerome does everything with utmost excellence and at the same time respect everyone around him. Most of all, he is a public servant; believing that everyone should do his or her role as a member of society. As a child, he had a lot of visions of the future that Jerome’s of other timelines might have achieved by now. He wanted to be an actor and a newscaster, a wrestler, a boxer, a grappler, and a scuba diver. He is also passionate about his goals for society, wanting to be fireman and a traveler. He also wanted to be the King of England, or a knight, skilled in the sword-arts. He also wanted to be a zoo keeper, an archer and a pet detective. |
He likes to eat and run, play the guitar and talk to someone special. As a student in UST, Jerome is currently adjusting and enjoying the wonders and the mysteries of college life.
Currently, he wants to become an actor and an omnipotent newscaster, able to report news anytime, anywhere without any bother at all.
“I’m limited edition”, Jerome quotes, “so take me now.”

Julianne Manreal, 1JRN3
Friendly, feisty, cheerful, witty: This is how home-grown pageant pro Julianne Manreal describes herself. Her cuteness can never be underestimated; this one’s a pageant pro in their village and high school. “I think my courage will push me through the contest just fine,” she said with an obvious confidence that she keeps. She reminded the other contestants to have fun during pageant and to give their best, but warned them that she is in it for the thrill. The support everyone gives her and the encouragements she highly appreciate are what keep her going. Five years from now she sees herself pursuing Broadcast Journalism, and facing the camera as an anchor. J Photos were taken from the Neo-Centennial JournSoc Facebook page. |
